Oak Bluffs Health Board Makes Tough Turf Decision

The health board in Oak Bluffs has unanimously voted to ban artificial turf for athletic fields.

Tuesday's decision follows what members called extensive work on the language of the rule, plus discussions with school officials.

The ban, members explained was out of concern for the community's drinking water, plus the recently-enacted tougher standards on P-FAS, or "forever chemicals."

The issue became front and center due to the push for a new synthetic turf field as part of renovations at Martha's Vineyard Regional High School.
